How to Get the Most from WarrantyShelf

Start with what you have now

Walk through your home and add every appliance and electronic device you can think of. Check receipts, email confirmations, or credit card statements for purchase dates. Even rough dates are better than nothing. You can always edit later.

Check the dashboard monthly

Set a reminder to open WarrantyShelf once a month. Look at the "Expiring Soon" count. If something is within 90 days of lapsing, check whether the manufacturer offers extended coverage or whether you want to schedule preventive maintenance.

Common warranty claim mistakes

People lose claims by not registering products, losing receipts, or waiting too long to report issues. Register new appliances on the manufacturer's website right after purchase. Keep digital photos of receipts. Report problems as soon as you notice them, not weeks later.

When a claim gets denied

First, read the denial letter carefully. It should explain why. Common reasons include improper installation, unauthorized repairs, or the issue being classified as "normal wear." You can often appeal with additional documentation. Your printed WarrantyShelf summary helps show purchase date and coverage period at a glance.

Exporting and backing up

Your data lives in your browser. If you switch devices or browsers, use the Export button to save a JSON file. Import that file on the new device. Do this every few months so you don't lose records if your browser data gets cleared.

What about extended warranties?

If you buy an extended warranty or protection plan, update the warranty period to include both the manufacturer coverage and the extension. For example, a 1-year manufacturer warranty plus a 3-year extended plan means entering 4 years total.

What to know before you start

  • Warranty periods vary by brand, model, and country. The presets are common defaults. Always verify with your actual documentation.
  • This tracker does not send you reminders or notifications. You need to check it yourself.
  • All data is stored in your browser's local storage. Nothing is sent to any server.
  • Receipt photos are stored as data URLs in your browser. Very large images may slow things down.
